The premise of this performance was to express in form and movement the relationship of the individual to the collective, exploring also concepts of microcosm and macrocosm, the nature of Deification, and resolution of the Fate versus Free Will dichotomy.
Dancers together form the face and hands of Kali-Arachne, a giant composite deity. Individual dancers, expressing their independence, break away from the composite figure to perform their own dances, yet these also ultimately weave back into the pattern of the whole. The fractal nature of reality is expressed through the forms and movements of individual figures echoing the larger movements of larger beings they are part of. We may struggle with our Fate, or dance with it and co-create our destiny, acknowledging our part within the collective reality, both being influenced by it and - with the language of our bodies and souls - influencing it.
The English word Text comes from Latin root texte - to weave. Tantra (an ancient Sanskrit text) means in the loom. The Tibetan 4-legged combination of the forms Kali (waning moon) and Lalita (waxing moon) is Kawaning, Mother of the Heart Beat Clan. Lila is a Sanskrit word for the Play of Form.
This film was created from live dance footage (performed June 06 in Melbourne Australia) combined with effected film Pre-created for projection in live shows.
